‘Cake Boss’ star Buddy Valastro struggles to get an ice cake on his return to the bakery after suffering a hand injury

Buddy Valastro is on the road to recovery, but the journey was not exactly easy.

The “Cake Boss” star returns to his famous kitchen for the new TLC special, “Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery”, which follows the baker as he recovers from a bowling accident he suffered months ago.

A new clip obtained by People magazine shows the New Jersey native having a hard time putting on the top of a cake while discussing how he is feeling physically and mentally.

“I want to be in the game, I don’t want to be on the sidelines watching,” said Valastro in the two-minute clip for the outlet.

The star also reveals that the strength in his hand is “about 15%” back, and he found himself committed not only to creating cakes, but to being part of the whole process, remembering that he wants to “touch” and “feel” your creations again.

While struggling to decorate the dessert, he compares himself to “an old boxer who still thinks he can fight”.

“You know, how you feel like it, you have the heart, but you don’t have the tools now,” he says.

In mid-November, Valastro underwent three surgeries and noted that he may need more in the future, depending on how his hand heals.

He was bowling with his family when his hand got caught in the pin guard and his hand was impaled several times by a metal bar.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about his prognosis in November, the TV star said his scars were beginning to heal.

“It is very, very rigid. I don’t really have that much movement, so much strength, dexterity … So, it’s really just a matter of continuing to do rehabilitation,” he shared. “I would say that I probably have, like, 10 or 15% of the strength that I used to have … In fact, it will be a matter of time to see exactly what comes back with courage too … .. And many, like , nerve damage, so my fingers are a little numb in the middle, you know? They’re always going to be numb and stiff … and we’ll see what happens. “

The baker confessed that he is not sure “how much I will be able to do” in terms of work again. But he also admitted that he is not yet ready to retire.

“I’m not ready to be left out yet, so I don’t know what the transition will be like or what capacity things will end,” he said.

“Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery” debuts on TLC on Wednesday.
