Buffalo Sabers goalkeeper Linus Ullmark leaves early with injury to his lower body

BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo Sabers goalkeeper Linus Ullmark was dropped after being injured in the first period of his team’s 4-3 defeat in the overtime for the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

Ullmark stopped all 15 shots he faced in the first period before being replaced by reserve Carter Hutton to open the second period because of an injury to his lower body.

Ullmark was shaken during an intense Devils run up front, which ended with the goalkeeper reaching out to kick Nico Hischier from high position six minutes later. Ullmark was slow to get up and ended up being treated by the Buffalo medical team before being cleared to continue playing.

Sabers opened the game without captain Jack Eichel, who was sidelined by what the team is calling a lower body injury.

Without being specific, Sabers coach Ralph Krueger said Eichel’s injury developed during the warm-up and is unrelated to his lack of early morning skateboarding.

“It definitely took us by surprise. The first diagnosis is from day to day, ”said Krueger.

As for Ullmark, the coach said more tests are needed to determine the severity of the injury.

Hutton stopped 25 shots in relief from Ullmark.
