Bills defeated Ravens 17-3 on Saturday in the AFC divisional round. During the game, the Ravens lost quarterback Lamar Jackson in the third quarter due to the concussion protocol.
So, Bills fans – nicknamed Bills Mafia – wanted to show their support for the injured NFL player. They used Reddit to find Jackson’s favorite charity, reported CNN affiliate WLKY-TV.
Once Bills fans found out that Jackson had a long-standing relationship with Blessings in a Backpack, the nonprofit said donations to the organization began to arrive.
The organization works to feed “schoolchildren in the United States who are currently fed during the week on the federally funded Free and Reduced Meals Program and are at risk of starving on weekends,” according to its website.
“Thank you, #BillsMafia for your support of the Blessings in a Backpack program to feed children in #Louisville and across the country in honor of @ Lj_era8!” the organization tweeted on Sunday, marking Jackson’s username.
The Louisville chapter received more than $ 75,000 on Saturday night, according to WLKY-TV. The program has now stepped up its efforts because of Covid-19, according to its website.
Bills fans are known to have a caring heart. In 2017, they donated money to the then Cincinnati Bengals quartet Andy Dalton. Early in the 2020 season, Bills fans also donated money to a children’s hospital after Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s grandmother died, according to ESPN.
The Ravens showed their support for the generosity of Bills fans.
“Respect, @BuffaloBills and #BillsMafia,” the team tweeted on Sunday, link to a tweet that shared news about Bills fan donations.
After winning on Saturday, the Bills head to the AFC Championship, where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs to determine who will go to the Super Bowl.
