Britt Reid is no longer employed by Kansas City chiefs, according to reports

Reid, the son of Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid, was put on administrative leave after being involved in a multi-vehicle accident last Thursday. The accident left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition with a brain injury.
League sources told ESPN and the NFL Network that the 35-year-old’s contract expired after the team’s defeat at the Super Bowl LV on Sunday.

Kansas City chiefs did not respond to a CNN request for comment.

In a statement on Tuesday, the chiefs said they were in the process of collecting information about the incident and “will continue to assist local authorities as requested”.

“Our focus remains (the girl) and her family. We reach out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time and we will continue to pray for their recovery,” said the Chiefs.

The accident

The three-vehicle accident occurred last Thursday night, when police in Kansas City, Missouri, said a Chevrolet Impala was disabled on the Interstate 435 ramp, and the driver asked family members for help. When family members arrived and parked their Chevrolet Traverse near the disabled car, a Dodge Ram truck – allegedly driven by Reid – hit both vehicles.

A 4 and 5 year old at Traverse was transported to a local hospital with the 5 year old suffering fatal injuries, police said.

A GoFundMe was created by Tiffany Verhulst, the 5-year-old girl’s aunt, on behalf of her mother.

Impala and Traverse drivers were not injured, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram – identified by the police as Reid – is being investigated for physical damage, according to the police incident report. Reid was injured in the accident that required surgery, his father said earlier.

Reid told a responding policeman that he had consumed “two to three” drinks after the policeman noticed an alcohol odor “emanating” from Reid, as well as “bloodshot and red eyes”. Reid also told police that he is taking the prescription drug Adderall, according to a search warrant first obtained by KSHB, an affiliate of CNN.

The officer conducted a sobriety test and observed signs of disability, the warrant says. Reid was taken to a local hospital after complaining of stomach pain.

Reid was not charged with any crime.

CNN’s Kevin Dotson, David Close and Amir Vera contributed to this report.
