Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he was not letting a car accident involving his son, who left a five-year-old girl in critical condition, be a “distraction” for the Super Bowl.
The young woman was seriously injured in the accident and remains in “critical condition and has not woken since the accident,” said her family.
Britt Reid, who is the team’s coach and son of Andy Reid, was behind the wheel of a truck involved in the accident near the team’s stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Police say Reid, 35, admitted to drinking before the accident and an investigation was launched, but no charges were filed.
CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson told the channel’s pre-match program that sources said Andy Reid was not letting the incident be a “distraction” for the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Two children in the rear of a Chevrolet Traverse were injured in the incident, with their five-year-old son suffering fatal injuries.
A GoFundMe page was created for the young man, called Ariel, with the goal of raising $ 100,000,
“Ariel, 5, suffered from swelling and bleeding in and around the brain. She is in critical condition and has not woken up since the accident ”, says the GoFundMe page.

“Ariel will be in the hospital in the near future, this is done for the hospital bills and lost work weeks to come.
“No child deserves to go through this, nor should any mother have to see her child like that.”
Reid, the coach of the external linebackers, was left at home and did not travel to the Super Bowl.
Authorities say a Chevrolet Impala driver ran out of gas and asked for help, and the family at the Chevrolet Traverse parked near him with their headlights on.
A white Dodge truck was coming down the ramp to enter I-435 when it hit the Impala and hit Traverse from behind.
None of the adults involved in the accident were injured.
“The organization was informed of an accident involving several vehicles involving Outside Linebackers coach Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement.
We are in the process of collecting information and will have no further comments at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. “
