Britney Spears requests Jodi Montgomery as permanent conservative

Britney Spears’ lawyer formally asked Jodi Montgomery to replace Jamie Spears as the singer’s conservative.

In court documents filed on Tuesday and obtained by VarietyBritney Spears’ lawyer, Samuel Ingham, asked Jamie Spears to resign from the role.

“The petitioner requested the resignation of his current conservative, James P. Spears, who temporarily relinquished his powers as of September 9, 2019,” says the document. “The internal petition calls for his replacement by Jodi Pais Montgomery, who has served as a temporary conservator of his person since that date.”

The petition also notes that Britney Spears “expressly reserves the right to request the termination of this guardianship”

Jamie Spears temporarily stepped down as conservative person for the singer for health reasons in September 2019, and has not yet resumed the role. Jamie Spears is still co-conserving her property with the Bessemer Trust Company, which was named co-conservative in November 2020.

If the request were granted, Montgomery would assume permanent tutelage for Britney Spears, which would give Montgomery control over the singer’s medical treatment. The function would also allow Montgomery to “restrict and limit visitors by any means”, process restriction orders if necessary and appoint security guards and other janitors.

In the lawsuit, Ingham cites a 2014 order that says Britney Spears is unable to “consent to any form of medical treatment” as one of the reasons why Montgomery should take over as his permanent conservator.

Ingham first requested the removal of Jamie Spears from guardianship in August 2020. Jamie Spears has been the singer’s conservative since 2008.

The lawsuit follows on from the documentary “Framing Britney Spears”, which rekindled public interest in Britney Spears’ tutelage, with many fans and public figures calling #FreeBritney.

The next hearing on Britney Spears’ guardianship will be on April 27.
