Britney Spears’ lawyer filed a petition on Tuesday requesting that the pop star’s father, Jamie Spears, be removed as his conservative.
In the recent court case, obtained by Variety and other media, Spears asks Jodi Montgomery to permanently assume the role of conservative. Montgomery has served as a temporary conservative of Spears since Jamie Spears stepped down in September 2019 for health reasons.
Jamie Spears has been a conservative since 2008, but the pop star’s lawyer, Samuel Ingham, first asked to remove him from guardianship last year.
Ingham did not immediately return a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
If the petition is approved by a Los Angeles court, Montgomery will gain authority to communicate with Spears’ doctors, limit his visits, with the exception of his lawyer, and may retain caregivers and security guards.
In February, the New York Times launched Framing Britney Spears, a documentary that aired on FX / Hulu that inspired even more public interest in Spears’ tutelage and the #FreeBritney movement.
The pop singer too tweeted and shared a message on Instagram when the documentary was released, saying: “Each person has his story and his opinion about other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many beautiful and different lives !!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life, this is nothing compared to the real person who lives behind the lens !!!! “
According to Variety, the next hearing on Spears’ guardianship is scheduled for April 27.
