A British teacher angered her parents when she accidentally emailed the class an adulterated reading video of a children’s poem – which made prose once harmless about incest.
The unidentified teacher at Ings Primary School in East Yorkshire intended to send her fifth and sixth graders a video of children’s author Michael Rosen reading his poem “The Car Trip”, Sun reported on Thursday.
Instead, she sent the class a vile parody of the story called “The Horrible Car Trip”, which put the video together to make it about incest.
“Teachers need to check what they are sending to the children and not just be lazy and post random links that they haven’t verified,” said an angry father who heard the video with his daughter.
“I heard it halfway through the first time while I was working and she was sitting next to me and struggling to answer questions,” he said. “So I had to hear the poem correctly and I realized that something was very wrong with what she was hearing and I turned off the video.”
He said the video was on the air for more than an hour before it was removed.
The professor sent the video through Google Classroom while remotely teaching 9- and 10-year-old students due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Rosen, a popular children’s author, wrote “The Car Trip” about siblings arguing in the back seat of the family car during a trip with their mother – but the innocent story turned into a sick parody in the tampered video.
Red-faced school officials were forced to apologize to angry parents.
“The poem was uploaded by mistake and we apologize for this genuine error,” said school principal Kath Roe in a message. “We would also like to thank the father who contacted us immediately after realizing the error.”
“Changes have been made to the submission process and we will ensure that the content shared with our students is thoroughly verified by our teachers,” she wrote.
