Breath of the Wild fans are trying to assemble Sidon as soon as possible

Every month, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild speedruns become a little bit weirder. Case in point, today we have a new game category called “mount%”, in which runners try to assemble all the animals in the game. This includes standard creatures, such as horses, but also includes everyone’s favorite shark piece, Sidon. After all, you ride Sidon during a part of the boss of the open world adventure, so, technically, he qualifies here too.

This hilarious concept was developed by the extraordinary speedrunning Joedun, who has already made headlines for things like completing BOTW at 100% – with zero damage. In an email, Joedun explained that this was initially intended as a challenge only for Sidon who came to his head while trying to run without damage. But, he said, it soon became clear that the only way to make it an official category of speedrun recognized by the community was to set some rules. It didn’t take long before he decided to include all kinds of mounts, just to make things more interesting.

What’s cool about this speedrun category is that, at the time this book was written, it is the only one that requires fans to do something with the Lord of the Mountain. The snow-white ethereal hill only appears in extremely specific conditions – once on the day of a crescent moon. To make this work, Joedun had to find out exactly what was going on under the hood. It can appear at any time within the 24 hours of the game, and only if you are not entirely in the mountainous region of Satori, says Joedun.

“It turns out that the length of time he spawns is also random,” he said, which is why sometimes casual players will see the treacherous horse disappear almost immediately after seeing it. It is also the biggest “pain in the ass” during the race for exactly that reason, he said during the video.

As an added bonus, the launch of the race to the public is being celebrated with friendly competition. Whoever achieves the fastest% assembly time by May 6 will win $ 100, although second and third place finishers will also receive some money for their problems. Better yet, the announcement video details the current route developed by speedrunners for the category, which means that whoever does this will not be starting from scratch. This, of course, includes an entire section dedicated to riding Sidon, the main attraction.

So far, Joedun has managed to finish the race in just under an hour – but hopefully, others will be able to shorten that time soon.
