Bowser’s Fury is a short, action-packed, free-moving adventure in Mario

Nintendo explained that Bowser’s Fury – the new standalone adventure that comes with the release of the Super Mario 3D World Switch – will be a “short but action-packed” roaming experience. The new Bowser’s Fury website describes the story of the expansion: “Mario is sent to Lake Lapcat, where everything is based on cats – and Bowser has gone crazy! Join Bowser Jr. to help his father relax on this short, but autonomous adventure full of action. “

The website also confirms that the adventure is free. You’ll be traveling around Lake Lapcat in search of Cat Shines – which will allow you to unlock the new Giga Bell Power-Up – and turn on headlights to clean up dark areas. This seems a little closer to Super Mario Odyssey than to the more selected courses in 3D World.

In Twitter, Nintendo added that Bowser’s Fury can be selected on the Super Mario 3D World title screen – it’s not an end game level, or unlocked by playing the Wii U re-release.

The new website also confirms how amiibo will act in the expansion. Using a Bowser amiibo will cause the new Fury Bowser to appear in the game, and a Bowser Jr. amiibo will trigger “a powerful shockwave to knock out enemies and nearby blocks”. Other amiibo will also have effects – one of which will apparently be turning into a golden Cat Mario statue, as seen in yesterday’s Overview Trailer (above).

We learned a little about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury in the past few days, including adding a photo mode, and how Fury Bowser will be a timed worldwide event in the new adventure. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury will arrive for Switch on February 12th, and you can order it right now.

We gave the Wii U version of Super Mario 3D World a 9.6 / 10 in our review, saying it is “wonderful, and its constant variety and cheerful and cheerful cooperative game proves that Nintendo still knows exactly how to adjust Mario’s formula in fun ways . “
