Boston’s Straight Pride Parade organizer and a member of the Natick Town Meeting – both staunch supporters of President Trump – are the last to be arrested for their role in the US Capitol insurrection attempt earlier this month, officials said. federal.
Mark Sahady, 46, of Malden, and Suzanne Ianni, 59, of Natick, were arrested without incident on Tuesday in their respective homes, according to the FBI.
Both face charges of disorderly conduct on the grounds of the Capitol and illegally entering or staying in the US Capitol building on January 6, when Congress met to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Both are expected to appear at the US District Court in Boston later in the day.
Sahady is the founder and vice president of the anti-LGBTQ Super Happy Fun America, known for its “Straight Pride” march in Boston in 2019. Ianni also has connections with the group, according to FBI documents, and helped organize buses that they were transporting hundreds of Trump supporters from Massachusetts to Washington DC ahead of the violence there.
The group intends to be an advocate of the “hetero community”, according to its website and has the motto: “It is great to be heterosexual”.
The two are photographed together inside and outside the United States Capitol building at a time when a violent mob stormed the building in photos posted on social media, FBI documents show.
In a January 5 post on the group’s Facebook page, Ianni and Sahady are pictured together on one of those buses showing thumbs-up alongside about half a dozen other people, according to FBI records. The caption on the photo is “Bus 1 of 11 arriving in Washington DC. I’ll see you there!”
According to the documents, Ianni reportedly boasted to a local newspaper that he was the “main organizer” of the buses. Your LinkedIn account identifies you as a board member of Massachusetts Women for Trump.
Ianni is also listed as a contact person in a January 4 Facebook post of the “New England for Trump” account announcing the Super Happy Fun America trip to Washington DC “before a joint Congressional session with state voters on 6 January. “
Sahady’s Twitter account was filled with “multiple statements” claiming that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump and urging supporters to meet in DC to respond on January 6 to “send a message”, billing documents show.
The Malden and Natick police departments helped the FBI to arrest individuals.
The FBI’s line of complaints about the deadly Capitol insurrection has been inundated with calls since January 6, several of which identified Sahady and Ianni. A report by MetroWest Daily also identified the pair in the photos.
Social media puts several other Massachusetts residents, including Therese Duke of Charlton, in Washington DC at the time of the failed uprising, but Ianni and Sahady are the first Bay Staters to face arrest by federal authorities.
A Pittsfield man, David L. Ross, 33, of 10 Winter St., was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department on January 6 and charged with illegal entry and violation of the Washington, DC curfew that night.
