Mackenzie Scott, author, philanthropist and ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, married a science teacher in Seattle. Her now husband Dan Jewett announced the news on the website of the non-profit organization The Giving Pledge.

“And now, in a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and loving people I know – and I join her in her commitment to pass on enormous financial wealth to serve others,” wrote Jewett.

Jewett, who worked at the school that Scott’s children attend, Lakeside School, said he never thought he would be able to talk about donating significant wealth during his life to make a difference in other people’s lives.

Scott, who donated $ 5.7 billion in 2020 through 512 organizations, was listed as the second American to give the most charity last year, according to the annual ranking of the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Bezos, who was with Scott for 25 years before the 2019 split, said he was “happy and excited” for the new couple.

“Dan is such a nice guy,” said Bezos in a statement on Monday. “I am happy and excited for both.”

Forbes has estimated Scott’s wealth today at $ 53 billion.

“I have seen many ways in which MacKenzie has seen her efforts increased when she acts on the belief that those with common values, but different perspectives, strengths and experiences are essential to effecting positive change,” wrote Jewett. “We are united in this understanding and in our enthusiasm for everything we have to learn from so many people who work for others.”
