I don’t know if there is a higher power in this universe, but if there is, it certainly wants us to eat a lot of fried chicken sandwiches. At the rate we are going, each restaurant will be forced to make only fried chicken sandwiches. Then the fried chicken sandwiches will revolt and destroy us all.
2020 gave us approximately 483,457,938 of themand 2021 is about to give us three more. McDonald’s will feature a crispy chicken sandwich, a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and a deluxe chicken sandwich on February 24th. It is a real gift.
The crispy chicken sandwich, according to official press release, presents the “brand new crunchy, juicy and tender steak made with totally white chicken” covered with pickles cut in a mashed potato roll. Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich is the same thing, but with a hot pepper sauce added (please, please be Powerful hot sauce), and the Deluxe is topped with chopped lettuce, Roma tomato and mayonnaise. And yes, we will try them out at some point and give our (casual) professional opinions on the subject.
Personally, my hopes are not very high, just because I’m kind of stuffed with fried chicken, and Wendy’s “new” chicken didn’t look much different when I tried it. If I had to guess, this is yet another mandatory gesture for the masses, considering how long it takes for that to happen. McDonald’s latest new chicken sandwich, Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich, it was a spicy mess. O chicken cracker and McGriddles were generally good.
But there is always room for optimism. Last year, a leaked memo McDonald’s franchise owners said the chain was focusing its efforts on attracting new customers with chicken sandwiches. And then there’s this: when I saw that Popeye’s had launched a “New chicken sandwich,” I thought, How nice another fried chicken sandwich from a fried chicken store. We all know how This one ended.
