“There is no way in hell they can show this conversation,” she added with a laugh. “But for me, especially living last year, it would be very important for me.”

Before his “The Bachelorette” season aired in May 2018, Kufrin winner and new fiancé Garrett Yrigoyen made headlines after it was revealed that he liked Instagram posts that mocked transsexuals, immigrant children and a victim school shooting.

“I was in a very strange limbo phase, where I was happily engaged, I was in a great cause of being in love and the program had worked for me, but … I couldn’t talk about it because I couldn’t reveal who I chose” , she said.

“The pressure I felt – and I think any clue can attest to that – is astronomical,” continued Kufrin. “You have this huge franchise that is riding on your shoulders.”

Kufrin was with Yrigoyen after his ending aired while he apologized for his likes on Instagram in his special “After the Final Rose”. Still, she did not hesitate to confront Yrigoyen amid the controversy, she said.

Despite the dust raised, Kufrin and Yrigoyen stayed together for more than two years.

And it wasn’t until last year “when the pandemic hit and George Floyd was murdered that we started having different types of conversations that we didn’t necessarily have before,” said the reality star.

Yrigoyen’s activity on Instagram made headlines once again when he posted in support of the police as Black Lives Matter protests spread across the United States in June.

A few days later, during her podcast “Bachelor Happy Hour”, Kufrin told her co-host and also “Bachelorette” star Rachel Lindsay that she thought Yrigoyen’s post was “deaf”.

“Garrett is my fiance and I love him deeply. I believe he is a good person,” she said. “I don’t think he meant it maliciously … I think he was deaf to tones and it was the wrong time, message and feeling.”

Three months later, Kufrin announced that she and Yrigoyen had broken off their engagement.

Kufrin told Insider that the couple’s separation was not just an Instagram post. But she had spent the summer wondering about the differences between them.

“I was like … what’s important to me? What’s important to him?” she remembered. “Will we be able to build a lifelong relationship out of our differences?”

Kufrin continued, “How are we going to raise children? What kind of conversation do we want to have with these children? Can I continue in this relationship and live with myself and feel that it is the right decision for me and my future children?”

Kufrin told James to make sure he asked “the right questions” during his own “single” journey

Although Kufrin did not ask many of the difficult questions during her run on “The Bachelorette” in 2018, she has advice for current “Bachelor” James, who is the first black man in the position.

“I said to him, ‘When you start talking about girls, you can really imagine how to start a life and introduce your family, make sure to ask the right questions for you,” she recalled. “Just … make sure you don’t leave this experience with any of these women wishing you had more time to meet them or find out who they are.”

“The Bachelor” airs on Monday nights at 8 pm ET / PT on ABC.
