Baker Mayfield, wife Emily takes the dying Browns fan to the final game of the regular season

A terminally ill Cleveland Browns supporter was able to assist his team in their final game of the regular 2020 season to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, thanks to Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily.

Tom Seipel was asked to fly from Georgia to Ohio to watch the Browns face the Steelers last week, according to People. Seipel posted on the Browns’ Reddit page two weeks ago about his kidney cancer and it caught the attention of several people, including Emily Mayfield.

“I never thought it would turn into anything,” he told the Akron Beacon-Journal of his posting on Reddit.

A GoFundMe was then created in his name and he managed to contact Emily Mayfield. The Browns quarterback then got involved after the chance to connect.

“You are extremely inspiring, man, you are a warrior. I just want to say, keep fighting. I appreciate your support and we will see what happens when we get to the playoffs, we will see if we make those dreams come true, friend,” Mayfield said in a video posted on Seipel’s Instagram page.

Emily Mayfield also offered Seipel seats in his suite at FirstEnergy Stadium for him and his father.

“This is the coolest … I know they’re just sports guys, and it’s a game, right? But I’ve lived and breathed Cleveland Browns football for so long, it’s really cool,” said Seipel in a YouTube video after discovering that I was going to be able to go to the game. “So, thanks to all those who are making this happen, I am very lucky.”

The Browns beat the Steelers to reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2002 season. Baker Mayfield spoke to Seipel via FaceTime after the game.

“My jaw dropped, I felt like an idiot, I didn’t know what to say,” Seipel told the Beacon-Journal. “I thought it would be the epitome, okay, I just saw Baker and talked to him personally, even though it was a video, I didn’t think it could get much better than that, but I was wrong.

“This is the class act he is. Baker is very arrogant, Mr. Dangerous. He has that cold and nervous attitude, but at the same time he has the biggest heart in the world.”
