Babylon’s 5-star lost actress Mira Furlan dies

Mira Furlan, the actress who played Ambassador Delenn de Minbari in the science fiction series Babylon 5, died. She was 65 years old. The creator of Babylon 5, J. Michael Straczynski, confirmed the news on Twitter. He also shared a long tribute to Furlan.

In her letter, Straczynski addressed Furlan’s story as an actress in Croatia, who was forced to flee the Croatian War of Independence with her husband, director Goran Gajić. Despite threats against his life, Furlan remained as part of a traveling theater group in the middle of the war. Regardless, Furlan downplayed his actions, according to Straczynski.

“I expressed my admiration for her courage, but she shrugged and waved a hand,” wrote Straczynski. “’What is the worst thing that could have happened? Yes, they could have killed me. And? Art must have no borders’ ”.

Furlan also drew on his personal story when he played Delenn for five seasons on Babylon 5. Her other notable roles in the genre also included Danielle Rousseau in Lost and Silver Sable in Spider-Man: the animated series. However, their roles were not limited to science fiction and fantasy. She also appeared in NCIS, with film roles in With mom, Twice born, The abandonedand Cirkus Columbia.
