Would you like a replica of the Statue of Liberty for Christmas? Or better yet, would you like an asteroid twice the size of Lady Liberty for Christmas? Well, then you are only 2 million miles from fulfilling your wish.
The asteroid – SD224 – is flying towards Earth and is due to fly on Christmas Day. It will travel just a few thousand miles faster than a space capsule – 22,000 mph. For speed fans, this is 30 times faster than the speed of sound.
NASA says this is a giant asteroid … over 180 meters long.
Here’s the madness. The asteroid is considered an object close to Earth, but when it passes it will be 8 times farther from Earth than the moon.

BTW … SD224 is not alone. There are almost 25,000 objects close to Earth in the skies. And, it wouldn’t be the first time something hit, check out this huge crater in Arizona.
The odds are certainly in our favor … NASA says the real threat from an asteroid destroying Earth occurs only once in a million years. The question … where are we on this spectrum?
Merry Christmas!!!
