Arkansas police officers arrest man for baby abduction from triple homicide scene

Arkansas state police said they arrested a man on Tuesday night who kidnapped a baby from the scene of a triple homicide.

The sheriff’s delegates were called to the house in northeastern Arkansas at about 5 pm Tuesday, where they found the victims: Tami Lynn Chenoweth, 51, James Stanley McGhee, 59, and Cheyene Chenoweth, 26.

Police began tracking two vehicles that were observed at the scene earlier in the day. About five hours later, the police stopped a van 320 km from the scene that corresponded to the description of one of the cars at the scene.

That’s when the police said Hunter Chenoweth, 22, got out of the van armed with a rifle and started “verbally teasing” the officers.

The police managed to arrest Chenoweth shortly after 10 pm.

The kidnapped baby was found inside the van unscathed, as was a 25-year-old woman who was driving. She was questioned by the police and released.

The month-old baby was placed in the care of the Department of Human Services.

Hunter Chenoweth is being held at Saline County Detention Center while the Madison County Prosecutor determines the formal charges.
