Apple working on the redesigned iMac, two Mac Pros, cheapest screen for 2021

The redesigned iMac is said to resemble the Pro Display XDR, with thinner bezels and no metal chin, sources say Bloomberg. The redesign, the company’s first since 2012, also shows the iMac moving from a curved back to a flatter rear section.

Sources said the iMac update will be Apple’s biggest visual redesign in 2021. There are two versions of the iMac in development, code-named J456 and J457, which will replace current 21.5-inch iMac and 27-inch iMac devices.

Both will use a new generation of original Apple Silicon processors, which will also appear in the 2021 line of the MacBook Pro. Apple’s first piece of silicone for the Mac, the M1, was launched in 2020.

Rumors in 2020 suggested that the company was working on a new iMac design with “iPad Pro design language” and “Pro Display as bezels”. An iOS 14 icon that ostensibly represents an updated iMac was also discovered in 2020.

Apple launched new iMac models in 2020, but they maintained the same old design as the 2012 line.

Along with the iMac, Apple is also working on a couple of new Mac Pro models. The first would look identical to the current version launched in 2019 and may continue to use Intel processors. The second variant, equipped with an Apple Silicon chip, could be about half the size and feature a design that “could invoke the nostalgia for the Power Mac G4 Cube”, Bloomberg reported.

In November 2020, a report stated that Apple was working on a redesigned and smaller Mac Pro device – although its processor type was unclear. A month later, another report stated that Apple was developing proprietary processors much faster for its professional desktops and notebooks, including a new Mac Pro.

The company is also working on a low-cost external monitor as part of its new Mac desktop efforts. No other information is available on the monitor other than the fact that it will be much cheaper than the $ 4,999 Pro Display XDR.
