In June 2020, BloombergMark Gurman reported that Apple is developing an AR / VR headset and AR-only glasses. Gurman said that Apple’s headset prototypes look like a smaller version of Facebook’s Oculus Quest, while the glasses would be more elegant and lighter. At an internal meeting, Apple said the headset could be announced in 2021 and launched in 2022, while glasses are expected in 2023, at the very least.

Gurman said that Apple’s glasses overlay information, such as text messages and maps, in front of the user’s eyes, and also said that users will be able to control the glasses with Siri. His report added that Apple is planning an App Store for its AR / VR headsets, but he has not indicated whether the store will extend to glasses.

Earlier this week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple vendors are gearing up for an unspecified augmented reality device in 2021. Kuo also expects Apple AirTags item trackers, new AirPods, 14-inch MacBook Pro models and 16 inches with Apple Silicon and an iPad Pro with Mini-LED screen to be launched throughout the year.

We will update this post if necessary, since the DigiTimes report is released.
