Users trapped between Apple and Microsoft may now find it easier to manage passwords: it looks like iCloud Keychain is coming to Windows 10 as a Chrome extension (via MacRumors) It is already in the iCloud app for Windows 10, but there is only one small problem: the Chrome extension is not yet available.
The latest version of iCloud for Windows 10 includes “Support for Chrome extension of iCloud passwords” in the list of new features, and when you open the app, there is a new password sync option. Checking the box will cause a login prompt to appear, along with a two-factor authentication request. According to the Apple support page, you will need to have two factors enabled for your account to have access to the feature, which is probably a good choice as, in theory, you will sync all your passwords.
I say “in theory” because, after logging in again, you will be asked to download the iCloud password extension for Chrome. However, the download button only takes you to a 404 page and searching the Chrome Web Store for the extension shows nothing. It looks like Apple may have released the iCloud update for Windows a little prematurely.

Hopefully, the Chrome extension will be available soon, as having access to iCloud Keychain on Windows would make life a lot easier for people who use it on their iPhones, iPads or Macs. However, if you just can’t wait, you can always switch to a dedicated password manager. Obviously, moving all of your passwords would be a pain if you are already using iCloud Keys, so it’s best to wait a little longer.
