Apex Legends new noir-themed Pathfinder video may be your best short of all

If you’ve ever wondered what Pathfinder’s life was like before the Apex Games, Respawn Entertainment now has an answer. The last video from the Stories from the Outlands game, called Fight Night, is about the cheerful and murderous robot and gives us an idea of where it came from and what it has done between its creation and its arrival in Apex Legends.

Despite being mainly about Pathfinder, the main character of Fight Night is a former policeman named Victor Maldera, who now works as a security and amateur detective. Victor was dishonorably released from the police force in Malta after his last case was closed. The case revolved around a tragic fire at Humbert Labs. The Maltese police considered the fire an accident, but Victor believed it was caused by Alexander Nox.

When the coroner announced that Nox was among the victims of the fire, Victor attacked him and was fired from the police. Years later, working as a security guard, Victor is still chasing Nox, who he believes is alive. Sure, insightful Apex Legends fans will recognize Nox – by name or hairstyle – as none other than Caustic, one of the original Legends of the game, so we know for sure that Victor is on the right track.

One night, when Victor is giving up his search for Nox, he meets Pathfinder, who is working as a waiter at a restaurant. After an accident involving a client with an accidental shot, Victor grabs Pathfinder and tries to interrogate him, only to see a video file of Caustic escaping the Humbert Labs fire, proving that he set the fire and that Victor was right all the time.

Also among these memory files, we see small excerpts of important Apex Legends stories like Revenant murdering Loba’s parents. There is also a brief clip from the creator of Pathfinder that explains that it was designed to discover new worlds like the Outlanders – who is a French scientist and may have some relationship with Wattson.

There is no point in ruining the action that comes afterwards, but in the end we can see what happened to Pathfinder and what looks like the beginning of its journey towards the Apex Games.

This trailer has a lot of history and seems to connect Pathfinder to many of the other Legends that compete in the Apex Games. But it is not clear whether we should expect this short from Stories from the Outlands to link directly to any future content or not. Maybe Victor, who seems to be an amateur boxer in his spare time, can make it to the Apex Games? But even if you don’t, Fight Night is still one of the Apex Legends best animated shorts of all time.
