AOC Texas fundraising doubled to $ 4 million with lawmakers visiting Houston: photos

As New York City representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez volunteered at the Houston Food Bank on Saturday, her fundraising effort for Texans who suffered after a severe winter storm rose to $ 4 million.

On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez said fundraising reached $ 2 million, up from $ 1 million the day before.

At the end of Saturday, she said she doubled again. “We just reached $ 4 million!” she wrote in Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez on Saturday joined the Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, Sylvia Garcia and Al Green in Houston.

A winter storm last week hit the southern United States, leaving millions of people without power.

Texas, which has its own power grid, was one of the most affected states. Storm-related damage could reach $ 50 billion in Texas, according to an estimate provided by AccuWeather CEO Joel Myers.

About 2.7 million families in Texas lost power during the storm, according to The Texas Tribune. As of Saturday, about 60,000 were still without power, NBC News reported.

The Houston Food Bank was working to collect about 30,000 boxes of food in two days, said Ocasio-Cortez on Saturday.
