Since Christina and Ant Anstead announced their separation in September, neither has spoken directly to the press about the matter. Instead, the ex-husband and wife shared their sides of the story on social media, while sources close to them released statements to the press. “It really hit me a lot”, the first Wheelers Dealers host said to the outlet. “I had a lot of love for her,” he said of the HGTV star, 37, whom he married in December 2018.

As he hinted at on Instagram, Ant confirmed that Christina was the one who wanted to part. “I have remained silent as I cling to hope. I never gave up on us. I pray that Christina’s decision will bring you happiness, “he previously shared with fans after the news became public.

That said, he revealed that he was in a “very dark place” after the one-sided split. Fortunately, however, he reached an inflection point. “I had the choice to think about it, or move on and work on myself,” he explained, noting that he chose the latter option.

The father of three quickly found comfort through a five-week separation recovery and healing course entitled Breakdown recovery revenue, that he praised on Instagram in October. Now, as he discussed with People, he revealed some of his lessons from the program: “nobody controls me but me,” he shared. “It is up to me to strengthen myself and realize how incredibly worthy of healing I am. “

In addition to taking the course, Ant also revealed that he made some changes to his daily routine. He starts each day doing FaceTiming for his older children (Amelie and Archie Anstead) in the UK, then exercises, eats a healthy breakfast and says a prayer about what he is grateful for. He also spends time with his son Hudson, who he shares with Christina.

“Not only did I improve my mental health, but I made a really conscious decision to go and improve my physical health,” said Ant. “I mean, for the first time in my life, I’m taking vitamins.” He even noted that he feels more physically fit now than during his professional football career.

Although the single father has made great strides since the separation, he revealed that he is still suffering – although not every day is so painful. “It’s really a process,” he said of navigating mourning. “And the point of healing is that sometimes you feel like you’re making daily progress and then out of nowhere, your legs are pulled out and you feel like you’re starting again. But I’m certainly taking steps towards healing, even if it’s too slow. “
