Anne Hathaway says she was the ninth choice for the role of Devil Wears Prada: ‘Never Give Up’

Anne Hathaway is a tough nut to crack when it comes to the acting industry.

Hathaway, 38, who had to fight to get his role in the 2006 dramatic comedy, The devil Wears Prada, revealed during an appearance on Friday in RuPaul’s Drag Race that she was ninth in line for the role of Andy Sachs alongside Meryl Streep in the fashion film.

Competitor Rosé asked Hathaway if there was any role she had to “fight tooth and nail”, to which she replied jokingly, “How much time do you have?”

“I’ll give you some tea: I was the ninth choice for The devil Wears Prada, “she revealed.” But I did understand! Hold on, never give up. “

Rachel McAdams was the first choice for the role due to her success in The notebook and Mean Girls, but she repeatedly refused.

“I’m not going to make films just to make films,” said McAdams Elle in 2007 of its decision. “I have to be passionate about it. And at the same time, I can be very distracted when I’m working and I really like to get back to my life.”

Juliette Lewis and Claire Danes also auditioned for the role.

Hathaway would say later Variety how hard she had to work to get the part.

“I had to be patient,” she told the outlet in 2016. “I wasn’t the first choice.”

The actress added that she traced the words “hire me” in the sand of an executive’s Zen garden plant after the meeting ended to get their attention.

Hathaway then remembered the moment when he found out he got the part.

“I was wearing a shirt,” she said. “I received some friends. I remember running out of my office, half dressed, screaming – I have The devil Wears Prada! i got The devil Wears Prada! “
