Animal shelter hosts dog wedding in South Carolina for charity

No one barked in objection to the marriage of these two puppies.

Sassy and Spero were married on Thursday, February 11, with the help of Greenville County Animal Care and two South Carolina event planning resources, including Wedding Festivals and Upstate Bridal Association.

The canine nuptials allegedly took place to benefit Greenville County Animal Care’s “Have a Heart” fund, according to the shelter’s website. The charity fund is dedicated to providing heartworm treatment for shelter dogs, which can range between $ 500 and $ 1,000 to treat per dog.

Both Sassy and Spero were said to have suffered from severe lung disease before their adoption, which is why the two dogs allegedly chose this cause “rather than gifts”.

“Sassy and Spero fell in love and are getting married today. But life has not always been easy for this happy couple,” says the shelter campaign. “At the same time, both were in a shelter and suffered from heartworm. Now they want to help more than 30% of HW positive dogs that enter Animal Care by requesting donations instead of gifts to the Animal Care medical fund. it can be a barrier to adoption and it makes Sassy and Spero sad. “
