Garcia will play the title character, a father who tries to come to terms with the daughter who ties the knot.

This story will be told through the private lens of an expanding Cuban-American family and its varied relationship dynamics.

Alazraki will direct from a script written by Matt Lopez (Race to Witch Mountain, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice).

“I am very excited to join O Pai da Noiva, a beloved film that has brought so much joy to so many people over the years and for representing my Cuban culture and heritage in this story,” Garcia said in a statement.

‘Praise to Warner Bros. for their vision and I commemorate this opportunity that they created ‘, he added.

The Pai da Noiva franchise spans more than 70 years, starting with the 1949 satirical novel written by Edward Streeter.

Spencer Tracy played the title character in the 1950 film adaptation, which also starred Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Bennett.

The film spawned a 1951 sequel entitled Father’s Little Dividend, with Tracy, Taylor and Bennett returning.

The franchise was revived 40 years later with the remake of Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride, which was a box office hit with $ 89 million in 1991.

Martin returned to the 1995 Father of the Bride Part II sequence, along with Diane Keaton and Martin Short.

They all also returned last year for the quarantine short film Pai da Noiva Part 3 (ish), where the family got together because of a call from Zoom.

The short was released on Netflix, which also served as a fundraiser for World Central Kitchen, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
