With Nick Sirianni replacing Doug Pederson as head coach of the Eagles, it is assumed that Carson Wentz will definitely be back in Philadelphia in 2021. But is that so?
Former Eagles president Joe Banner recently spoke about how he thinks Wentz is not necessarily guaranteed to return. NFL insider Mike Garafolo expressed a similar sentiment when speaking with Angelo Cataldi at the SportsRadio 94WIP Morning Show on Monday:
“The short answer is no. No, but we’ll see,” said Garafolo when asked if Pederson was gone meant that Wentz would be back. come back ‘… No. There is more to this. This is a guy who, I am told, feels a little strange in his relationship with the whole organization. Many people. There are a lot of hurt feelings on his end with the way this thing I’m not saying he’s justified or not, I’m just saying that, in my view, he’s more than just the head coach for him. There’s still more talk that needs to be done. with him, don’t forget that the front office will talk to him and see if they can work with his feelings and resolve all that and see if they can come back on the same page. ”
It certainly looks like there is some fence repair to be done here.
On the one hand, I can’t blame Wentz for having any feeling about the Eagles draft by Jalen Hurts. We criticized the Eagles for undermining their franchise quarterback after that choice was made. The organization has undoubtedly failed Wentz in some ways.
On the other hand, Wentz practically played as the worst starter in his position in the NFL last year. I can totally blame him for not having a commitment to a team that repeatedly spoiled him and gave him a $ 128 million contract extension. Wentz undoubtedly failed with the organization in some ways.
Like, what exactly is Wentz looking for here? Does he want the Eagles to fully commit to him as a starter and trade the Hurts? He should not be in a position to make such demands, especially after the abysmal season that has just passed.
The reports we hear about Wentz – who declined the chance to put his own words out there – since he was banned DO NOT paint the image of a player who was humiliated for his demotion. Instead, all the indications seem to be that he doesn’t think he was part of the problem, which is downright pathetic. There must be no need for rigorous persuasion and concessions to make Wentz accept his stay in Philadelphia.
Perhaps the Eagles are not really committed to Wentz and are interested in moving on. Your actions and words so far indicate otherwise.
But we will have to see what happens to the quarterback’s situation.
