Amy Schumer explains her part in the Hilaria Baldwin controversy

It may seem like it was a long time ago in the current news cycle, but it was actually just last month. And in case you forgot, it all started with comedian Amy Schumer making fun of Baldwin posing in lingerie with her baby.

Now Schumer talks about the story that consumed the internet.

“I feel it was so crazy and fun that I think Hilaria is probably the only person who is happy with the Capitol insurrection, because it distracted [people] from there, “Schumer told” Entertainment Tonight “before adding,” She is amazing and I wish her and her family the best. I hope she visits Spain as much as she wants. “
Baldwin criticized Schumer and others for making fun of her for taking pride in her post-baby body. Alec Baldwin’s former ballroom dancer and wife welcomed her fifth child in September and shortly afterwards posted a photo wearing lingerie while holding her son.

Schumer again posted the image on his Instagram account with a bold caption. But Baldwin saw no humor in Schumer’s post and took it to his own Instagram page with a video message calling Schumer and shamers. It was then that commentators began to notice that Baldwin’s usual Spanish accent was noticeably absent.

That was when her heritage began to be questioned, with people pointing out that she grew up in Boston, despite several online biographies citing that she was born and raised in Spain. Although their family lives on the Spanish island of Mallorca now, they are from America. Videos of Baldwin’s television appearances began to circulate, one from the “Today Show” in which Baldwin forgets the English word for cucumber, and even her husband saying in an evening appearance that she came from Spain.

It was then that Schumer mocked Baldwin again on Instagram in a deleted post.

“I felt like everyone was watching. Just like, ‘What’s going on?’ I thought we were still playing, so I wrote, ‘Hey, look, I love Spain too’. But then everything became a big thing and people were really upset, so I just took [too], “Schumer explained.

“Look, she is a mother. She has a million and a half children, and that is very difficult,” added Schumer. “So, I just don’t want them to have a bad time. But then again, you can’t just pretend to be from Spain.”

In an interview with The New York Times, Baldwin said he never said he was from Spain and that he spent so much time abroad throughout his life that it is only natural that she developed an accent.

Since the controversy, Baldwin has been quiet and has not posted on his Instagram page since late December.
