The first trailer for Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler, explores the sensibilities of the underground DIY punk of the Riot grrrl movement for today’s teen generation.
Based on Jennifer Mathieu’s novel of the same name, Moxie follows Vivian Carter (Hadley Robinson), a shy high school student, fed up with sexist culture at her high school in a small town. Inspired by her mother’s rebellious past, she and her friends begin an anonymous zine publicizing the toxic behavior of their colleagues. They are all handmade zines, sharp symbols in the hands and maintaining the sexist status quo, to the sound of a Bikini Kill soundtrack.
Amy Poehler plays Mrs. Carter, Vivian’s tough mother, with Lauren Tsai (Terraced house: Aloha), Josephine Langford (After), Patrick Schwarzenegger (yes, son of Arnold Schwarzenegger), Sydney Park (Living Dead) and Clark Gregg (yes, Agent Coulson) in other roles.
Moxie hits Netflix on March 3.
