Among us, developers explain why things are “taking so long”

Entre Us became a huge surprise success in 2020. The hidden role kill ’em up was originally released in 2018, and managed to blow its way to fame last year thanks in large part to many Twitch streamers. Unfortunately, this success brought some challenges for Innersloth developers. Yesterday, they launched a development blog explaining why development and updates are taking so long and telling fans a little bit about what’s going on behind the scenes.

“Between us it gained incredible traction right at the end of 2020 that we didn’t expect, and that meant a LOT of change for us,” say the developers. “Not only did we need to go back to work on Between Us after thinking it was ready, but we also needed to prepare ourselves more sustainably to work on the game. We had to spend 2 months just restructuring, discovering new processes and getting external partners to help us manage on board. “

The development team was originally just three people, although they added a fourth this year. They add that they heard suggestions to hire more people to help, but rushing to get new people can be harmful rather than helpful.

All of these organizational things mean that they needed to spend time away from the game, but in the end it all means that development will be a little easier in the future.

“Thank you so much for your patience while waiting for the next big update!” Innersloth add. “We want to do more for you to show how grateful we are, but without sacrificing the quality and values we had before that exploded.”

To that end, they will be revealing a 2021 roadmap for Among Us soon, so that people can get a better idea of what’s to come. They also remember that the game’s new airship map will arrive earlier this year. A system of accounts is also underway, the first update for which it will focus on moderation so that you can report people in the game if necessary.
