At the end of Teen Mom’s debut on Tuesday, Amber was adamant that she and Dimitri “were not boyfriend and girlfriend”.
It looks like Amber Portwood and Belgian boyfriend Dimitri Garcia couldn’t make it.
While fans of “Teen Mom OG” were introduced to her new boyfriend last season, the relationship clearly worsened before filming resumed – a situation complicated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We haven’t seen each other for seven months because of Covid,” exclaimed Portwood during a phone call from Zoom to his fellow co-co-stars of “Teen Mother” at the premiere of the season Tuesday night. “The thing is, though, he’s such a sweet guy, he’s incredible, but he’s possessive and jealous because he’s not here.”

As someone who had been in “controlling” relationships before, she was concerned about falling into a similar situation. “I can’t go back to where I was. I found myself and I’m happy with it, but I don’t want to miss it,” he explained.
In a narration, Portwood went on to say that Dimitri’s “insecurities” were “too much” for her to deal with. “Dimitri has been calling me nonstop and I need to be aware of that dynamic because I’ve been in controlling relationships before,” she added.
Speaking to one of his producers, Amber said he was “possessive at a distance” and someone who needed to know “what I’m doing all day, every day”. Her ears must have been ringing, because right after she said that, she got a call from him.
In it, he said it wasn’t his fault that he was so possessive, because he couldn’t stop thinking about her. “I love you, I miss you so much,” I told her. Amber’s response: “There are times when I feel like it’s getting a little too much.”

“The love we had before is turning into a very possessive and unhealthy situation,” she told him. “Being questioned so much by someone at a time like this is something that is not necessary for me at all. We are not ‘dating’.”
When he asked, “Really?”, She said she had to hang up and hung up. Speaking to her ex Gary Shirley after the call, she told him that the two “were not boyfriend and girlfriend”.
Portwood also briefly mentioned her ongoing problems with ex Andrew Glennon, with whom she shares son James, over the course of the hour. Although she noticed that the children were “doing very well” and seeing each other a lot, she was unable to “talk about certain names or anything” when asked about Andrew. She also revealed that James was not allowed to be filmed during the custody dispute, but she could still see him 2-3 times a week.
“Teen Mom OG” will air on MTV Tuesdays.
