Amber Heard Speaks After Johnny Depp Denies Appeal Of Defamation Decision Of ‘Wife Beater’

Johnny Depp’s attempt to appeal his decision to defame the UK’s “woman beater” has been denied – and his ex-wife Amber Heard is talking about the decision.

On Thursday, two judges at the London Court of Appeal said that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 57, cannot dispute the November decision in the case he lost to News Group Newspapers (NGN), owner of THE Sun, about a 2018 article that the tabloid published calling him a “women beater”. Depp denied that he abused Heard, whom he divorced in 2017.

Judges, James Dingemans and Nicholas Underhill, said the three-week trial last July, under Judge Andrew Nicol, concluded that it was “substantially true” that Depp had been violent with Heard on at least 12 occasions. They said the trial was “full and fair” and it has not been proved that Nichols made “any mistake in approach or mistake in law.” As a result, Depp “has no real prospect” of success in a new test and “there is no another compelling reason for him to be heard. “

In a statement to Yahoo Entertainment, Heard’s spokesman said: “We are satisfied – but by no means surprised – with the court’s denial of Mr. Depp’s appeal request. The evidence presented in the UK case was overwhelming and To reiterate, the original verdict was that Mr. Depp committed domestic violence against Amber on at least 12 occasions and she was afraid of her life. the allegation of new and important evidence was nothing more than a strategy of the press, and was largely rejected by the Court. “

At a hearing last week, Depp’s lawyers argued that Depp did not have a fair trial and said that Heard was not a reliable witness. To defend their position, they pointed out how she had not donated her $ 7 million divorce settlement to charity, as she said she would, calling it a “calculated and manipulative lie” on her part.

Appeal judges said the original verdict was not based on Heard’s donation or non-donation of the money. “It is clear from a reading of the trial as a whole that [Nicol] based its conclusions on each of the incidents on its extremely detailed analysis of the specific evidence for each incident, ”said the appeal decision.

Heard said she was “late” in her goal to donate the money because Depp filed a lawsuit against her in Virginia – for defamation for her Washington Post opined on domestic violence – seeking $ 50 million, so instead, she “was forced to spend millions of dollars defending [his] false accusations against her. “

During the trial, Heard witnessed about 14 alleged cases of abuse between 2013 and 2016, including a “three-day hostage” situation in Australia. Depp called his claims “a choreographed scam” in his defense. Nicol found out that Depp had been violent with Heard on at least 12 occasions, leading Depp to lose the case.
