Amazon deal brings Sony WH-100XM4 wireless headphones at lowest price

The best noise-canceling headphones from Sony are at the lowest price today — Ars Technica

Today’s Dealmaster is marked by a good discount on Sony’s WH-1000XM4, as state-of-the-art wireless noise canceling headphones are currently under $ 278 at several retailers. This represents more than $ 70 off Sony’s MSRP, about $ 50 off the normal online selling price, and tied with the biggest discount we’ve tracked so far, which we also saw on Black Friday.

At the moment, the WH-1000XM4 is our preferred choice among noise-canceling headphones. Certainly there are headphones with better sound for the price, but the XM4’s low-to-front sound is still pleasant for those who like reinforced bass, and it is possible to customize the audio profile through the companion Sony app. Either way, the XM4s are very comfortable to use for hours at a time, get excellent 30 or more hours of battery life and have many useful features, such as USB-C charging, a “talk to talk” function that automatically silences music when you talk to another person and a great “surround sound” mode that combines external noise with your music when you’re outdoors. More than anything else, its noise-canceling quality is excellent, silencing low-frequency noises and, to a less-but-still-impressive extent, similar high-pitched tones.

A pair like Bose’s Noise Canceling Headphones 700 has better call quality, a more neutral sound and the ability to customize the noise cancellation strength, but overall, we think Sony’s pair is the best deal, especially for that price.
