Now that Amazon has largely integrated Whole Foods into its online shopping options, the online shopping giant is trying to curtail some of its more redundant offerings by closing its Prime Pantry delivery service.

Launched in 2014, Prime Pantry was created to help people buy non-perishable groceries or bulk cleaning products using a low-cost fixed freight fee (or free of charge if you are an Amazon Prime member), with the exception that all items had to fit inside a single standard size box.

Later, in 2018, for those who were not Amazon Prime subscribers, Amazon gave customers the option of paying $ 5 a month to subscribe to Amazon Pantry in order to avoid fixed shipping fees at first.

However, after Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 and the expansion of Prime Now and Amazon Fresh delivery options, it appears that Prime Pantry has become unnecessary, and on Wednesday this week, Amazon decided to close Prime Pantry forever.

In a statement made to Bloomberg, an Amazon spokesman said: “As part of our commitment to providing the best possible customer experience, we decided to transfer the selection from Amazon Pantry to the main store on Amazon.com so that customers can get everyday household products faster, without an extra subscription or purchase requirement. “

The Amazon spokesman also said that previous Prime Pantry subscribers had been notified of the closure of Prime Pantry in December and should have received a refund for unused subscription time.

Even though I occasionally enjoyed carrying a box of Prime Pantry filled with junk food before things like the Super Bowl, given the huge expansion of Amazon’s online shopping empire in recent years, Prime Pantry was probably late to be removed.
