Amanda Kloots, the widow of Broadway actor Nick Cordero – who died of complications from Covid-19 – received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
Kloots posted a photo on Friday on Instagram taking the picture of Pfizer.
“I went to a location and waited in my car until all the appointments were over, in the hope that they would have some extra vaccine. I was fully prepared to be rejected, but they said they had enough tonight for everyone who waited,” she captions the image. “I can’t tell you how emotional I was and I still am now.”
Kloots’ husband, 41, died in July after a months-long battle with the coronavirus. His wife said he had no known pre-existing conditions, but he developed an infection that caused two mini-strokes and septic shock.
The Tony-nominated Broadway star was put into an induced coma at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and had to amputate his right leg.
Kloots, who co-hosts “The Talk”, said she was “terrified” after her husband’s death from becoming sick with the virus. “Now I’m one step closer,” she wrote in her Instagram post.
In Los Angeles, where Kloots received the vaccine, only essential workers and people over 65 can receive the vaccine. After her Instagram photo provoked some reaction, the gym instructor explained that she had to wait in line to see if the clinic had extra photos available.
“So, I’m sorry to be getting a little emotional, but this was a very emotional experience for me. I was perfectly fine being rejected tonight, if that were the case. I was really prepared to be rejected. I was shooting , and luckily the photo worked and they had availability and they were happy to have people there waiting with willing arms. And I was happy to be one of those willing arms, “she said in an Instagram story.
“So please, don’t be ashamed of the vaccine in my photo after this day, where I am so grateful to have this first step towards being vaccinated against this virus.”
