Allison Janney says goodbye to mom, as the sitcom is canceled after eight seasons

Allison Janney said goodbye to the TV series Mom after CBS announced on Thursday that it will end the sitcom this year after eight seasons.

The 61-year-old actress, who plays Bonnie on the hit show, described being part of Mom as ‘one of the great honors of my life’ in a heartfelt Instagram post shortly after.

The American program, which deals with the theme of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, was canceled after the abrupt departure of the protagonist Anna Faris. last September.

Although Faris, 44, left a few days before production started, the show continued with co-star Janney in charge – but it was to be the show’s final season.

Allison went to Instagram to share an article reporting the program’s cancellation, while paying tribute to the show’s creators, writers and staff members.

This happened a few days after Allison’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres, where she described returning to the set without Faris as “weird”.

Created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker, Mom was initially conceived as a vehicle for Faris, following his series of successful comic film roles, including The House Bunny and Smiley Face.

However, the program – which addresses the issue of recovering from drug and alcohol addiction – has undergone several changes over the seasons.

In season three, it was less about the character of Faris, Christy and their children, and more of a joint comedy – with supporting actors Jaime Pressley, Mimi Kennedy and Beth Hall getting more movie time.

In 2018, Kristen Johnston made a big impact playing Tammy Diffendorf, Bonnie’s adopted sister (Janney) who ended up in prison after trying to steal an Outback Steakhouse.

It was not long before Johnston was invited to be a regular on the series, and the show is now seen as a joint play between the five actors – possibly with Janney as the protagonist.
