Albany’s top leaders silent as Cuomo’s accusers reach five

The main leaders in Albany remained silent on Saturday night, while two more women came forward to claim that Governor Andrew Cuomo had behaved inappropriately with them.

Majority-leading state senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, (D-Westchester), did not immediately support her position from the previous days, when she said the governor should step down if a fourth accuser emerged.

The number of accusers is now five, including four women who worked for the governor.

“If there are more people performing, I think it would be time to step down,” said Stewart-Cousins on Thursday.

Representative Mike Lawler, (R-Rockland County) was quick to call the Senate leader.

“@AndreaSCousins, we now have five accusers alleging predatory sexual behavior on the part of the highest elected official in our state – one more than the red line you defined two days ago. It’s time. The people of the state of NY deserve nothing less. Ask for your resignation, ” tweeted Lawler.

A message to Stewart-Cousins was not returned immediately.

Assembly President Carl Heastie, (D-The Bronx) also remained silent in the hours after former Albany aide Ana Liss and Karen Hinton, a former Cuomo aide in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, spoke out.

Others were more direct.

“He’s fried”, deputy Tom Abinanti, (D-Westchester) tweet from the governor.

“Cuomo must resign or we must challenge him. The damage, the damage and the pain it caused must be over. I ask my colleagues to have the strength to speak and the will to act, ” tweeted deputy Yuh-Line Niou (D-Manhattan).

Queens deputy Ron Kim – who was receiving furious calls from the governor after Kim’s criticisms of the administration of the nursing home scandal – repeated his own impeachment request.

“Cuomo’s reign of corruption, his vile abuse of power, his destruction of people’s lives can end if our state legislature has the courage to impeachment,” Kim tweeted.

Congressman Ron Kim continued his calls for Cuomo's impeachment.
