Air Force veteran Capitol protester arrested after ex-wife calls FBI

A retired Air Force officer who was arrested after being filmed attacking the US Capitol with military equipment during last week’s riots was handed over by his ex-wife, officials said.

Larry Rendell Brock, from Grapevine, Texas, was accused of intentionally entering or staying in a restricted building with violent entry and disorderly conduct. He turned into FBI agents on Sunday.

His ex-wife, with whom he was married for 18 years, called the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center to report that he recognized him in photos taken inside the Capitol during the deadly January. 6 riot.

“I only know that when I saw that this was happening, I was afraid that he was there,” she said, according to a federal statement. “I think you already know he was there. It’s such a good picture of him and I recognize his patch.”

Brock, 53, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and graduated from the Air Force Academy, was seen wearing a helmet, military equipment with patches and zippered handcuffs.

Another witness contacted the FBI and explained Brook’s military experience.

“It appears to be him and has pilot wings on his chest in this photo,” said the witness, according to the statement. “He was an A-10 pilot. He worked in L3 and still has contacts who work with L3 who knew he was flying to Washington DC.”

Investigators compared Brock’s driver’s license with images of him in the Capitol building. A photo shows him in the Senate chamber. Another shows it outside the office of Hosue President Nancy Pelosi.

Brock confirmed his presence in the images and videos during an interview with The New Yorker.

“The president asked his supporters to be present and I felt it was important, because of how much I love this country, to be really there,” he told the magazine.

Prerak Shah, acting attorney general for the Northern District of Texas, praised Brock’s arrest on Twitter.
