Abigail Breslin shared a heartfelt tribute on Friday night to her father Michael, who died of complications due to COVID-19.

THE Zombieland: Double Tap the 24-year-old actress posted the devastating news in a long message on her Instagram account, along with a series of photos. “Oh, wow,” she started. “Hard to write this. Harder than I thought. I’m in shock and devastated. At 18:32 EST, my sweet, perfect, incredible, heroic and wonderful dad passed away after my family and I said goodbye. It was COVID-19 that shortened my sweet daddy’s life too much. “

“Mostly, I want to remember my dad for who he was,” Breslin wrote, sharing that Michael was “a hilarious, boisterous, tenacious, rebellious, intelligent, sweet and incredible human being” who loved life, his family and the simple things , like a cup of black coffee, barbecue, doowop songs like “I Wonder Why” by Dion & The Belmonts and funny stories about people’s pets.

Among the photos included was one of a young Breslin and her father at an awards ceremony – probably at the time of Little Miss Sunshine – with Nicole Kidman in the spotlight.

“And we loved him,” wrote Breslin. “And we always will. I miss you, Dad. I can’t wait to see you again. I will never, never, never forget you.”

On February 10, Breslin revealed on Twitter, that his father had tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be put on a fan. She urged her followers to continue wearing masks and following the COVID-19 protocols.

Breslin later wrote in a tweet: “All I can say is this: Covid is never more real until you have experienced it firsthand or through a loved one. It is unpredictable and unforgiving. My father was extremely careful and not has left home since he started, except for medical appointments. Please be safe. PLEASE. “
