There were many surprises during the tenth annual “NFL Honors” show on Saturday night, but none were bigger than the one that came from Aaron Rodgers. After being named MVP for the third time in his career, the Packers quarterback used his acceptance speech to casually announce that he is ENGAGED.
Rodgers started his speech by talking about how crazy things were in 2020 and then he dropped a gossip bomb that no one foresaw.
“2020 was definitely a crazy year, full of many changes, growth, some incredible memorable moments, 180 days in a row of having shaved my nose hair, playing for a few fans,” said Rodgers. “I got engaged and played the best football of my career.”
This is the most casual thing you’ll hear when someone announces their engagement for the first time on national television. Later in the speech, Rodgers also thanked his “bride” without mentioning her by name.
As you can imagine, as soon as Rodgers made the announcement, it became a hot topic on Twitter, mainly because no one seemed to have any idea that he was dating someone.
Rodgers dated Danica Patrick for just over two years, but the couple broke up sometime during the summer of 2020. If you’re wondering who Rodgers is engaged to, he didn’t say, but it’s probably not a coincidence that his people confirmed this week that he was actually dating someone and that someone is the actress Shailene Woodley.
The 37-year-old quarterback has known Woodley since at least July, but it is not known how long they have been dating. According to E! News, Rodgers and the 29-year-old were trying to establish a long-distance relationship and it seems that things worked out better than anyone could have imagined.
“They saw each other and kept in touch,” a source told E! “They continue to talk and see each other when they can. They are both focused on their careers, but they also find time for each other.”
Although Rodgers has just left his relationship with Patrick, the quarterback looked like someone who could be in a new relationship during an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” in September. During the interview, Rodgers was asked by an interlocutor why he looks so much happier this season.
“I just have a new and growing love for life and I made decisions and changes and habits that put me in a much better position,” said Rodgers. “And there are a lot of things that have come together in my life in the past few months that have been really enjoyable and have reminded me and given me a perspective – in life and in football – to see things through the most positive lens. that’s what I’m having so much fun and start with loveand surround yourself with people you really care about. “
