Aubrey Lewis, a nurse at the university hospitals in Cleveland, recently received the Modern Covid-19 vaccine. Days later, she discovered that one of her lymph nodes swelled.
“When I first got my vaccine, I had no side effects,” Lewis told News 5 Cleveland, saying he started experiencing a side effect days later. “I felt my armpit to see if there was anything there and I felt a lump. It was kind of difficult, but still mobile, it moved, ”she said.
Dr. Holly Marshall, who works in the Department of Radiology and Breast Imaging at University Hospitals, said they are receiving many calls from vaccinated women who are concerned that the swelling is a sign of breast cancer, according to Cleveland News 5 .
“We are asking everyone who is having a screening mammogram if they received the COVID vaccine and, if so, on which side and when was the date,” said Dr. Marshall, reports from News 5 Cleveland.
The CDC warned that one of the potential side effects of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are swollen lymph nodes.
“This means that you are making antibodies to fight infections, so later on, if your body sees a COVID-19 virus, then you will be able to fight the infection,” Dr. Marshall continued to explain via News 5 Cleveland.
Swollen lymph nodes are said to occur as a side effect two to four days after the vaccination injection. However, Dr. Marshall says “wait a few weeks and if there is no change, come in and we will evaluate.”
As for Lewis, she is happy to receive the second dose of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine. She said via News 5 Cleveland: “Going to the health field, I knew there would be times like this, to set the pace for everyone else, so I don’t hesitate to take the second dose.”
