A leaked Elden Ring trailer left fans in a panic

Oh, Elden Ring. Perhaps you are not a collective hallucination after all. Leaked images of what is supposedly a trailer for FromSoftware’s Norwegian RPG are circulating online today. Although it was filmed on what could have been a roll of duct tape, fans are excited. There has been almost no official word on the Elden Ring since it was announced at E3 in 2019, so a supposed new trailer is, unsurprisingly, a cause for celebration on the Elden Ring subreddit.

This is not the leaked trailer, see. It’s the official of 2019. You can probably still find what leaked out there.

As always, take leaks with a dose of salt. This certainly fits with what you would expect from a new FromSoftware joint. It’s a textbook, really. There is almost nothing in this unfocused video that is no longer expected by someone looking forward to another From game. A fist full of darts thrown at a plate with the label “Staples from the Souls series” would have produced the same clips.

There are people with metal helmets stabbing skeletons, carrying flaming swords and rolling around to dodge. Some are casting magic that looks quite familiar. One is battling some knobby, many-legged creature. Others are fighting giant bosses. A dragon spit fire. As enigmatic as the original reveal trailer, the narration says: “I can only imagine what drives you to seek the Elden Ring. I suppose you cannot be convinced to return … Very well then!”

As if even the leaker couldn’t bear to spoil the whole surprise, the video ends just before where you would expect to see a release date revealed if it were included in this particular trailer.

If you’ve been waiting for tips on what’s new in the Elden Ring, there’s not much to report. However, there seems to be horse fighting, which actually looks well organized and – oh, oops.

I was planning on making fun of people who are excited about bits of information, but, damn it, I’m a little excited now too. I’m also looking forward to dodging From’s next sword and sorcery adventure. Humanity restored, I suppose.

If this is a legitimate trailer, it is still unclear where and when we will be able to see it properly revealed. Xbox denied the rumor that they may be revealing details of the Elden Ring in March. We know that Xbox boss Phil Spencer played.
