Former President Donald Trump’s legal team is unclear and defined just days before the pre-trial deadlines for his second impeachment defense, according to Trump adviser Jason Miller.
Last week, South Carolina lawyers Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier were supposed to join the team, but now a source familiar with the matter says it was a “mutual decision” to split up.
“We did a lot of work, but we haven’t made a final decision about our legal team, which will be taken soon,” Miller said in a statement on Saturday, adding that “Democrats’ efforts to impeach a president who has already stepped down are entirely unconstitutional and so bad for our country. “
It is unclear whether attorney Josh Howard, who was supposed to help represent Trump, is on board. People close to the former president were unable to identify anyone on his legal team with just over a week until the trial began on February 9.
Trump does not plan to appear in person to defend himself against the charge that he incited the deadly US Capitol rebellion on January 6.
