Sony launched the Xperia Compact line for the first time in 2014 with its 4.3-inch Xperia Z1 Compact. It launched several phones with the Compact label in the following years. In 2018, it launched the last phone of this brand, the Xperia ZX2 Compact with 5-inch display. Today’s new report states that the new phone will have a 5.5-inch screen. This is much higher than previous phones in the series, but even less than most phones sold today.
The report also shows some renderings, which show that this phone will have some quite large screen bezels compared to most phones on the market. In addition, it will have a dewdrop design for its 8 MP front camera, which has virtually disappeared from the latest smartphones.
The renderings also show a dual rear camera for the phone, with the report stating that the main camera will be 13 MP. The left side of the phone will have a volume button, a camera button and an on / off button with a built-in fingerprint reader. There will also be a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top.
The report does not reveal any more details, such as processor, amount of RAM or integrated storage space. At first glance, this is a very “retro” design for a phone, so it is possible that it has relatively low hardware specifications. It can also have an equally lower price. The report does not provide any information about a possible launch date for the new Xperia Compact device.
In late 2018, rumors emerged, also complete with leaked renders, that Sony was planning to launch an Xperia XZ4 Compact phone. However, that phone was never officially released. In early 2019, Don Mesa, vice president of marketing for Sony Mobile, seemed to indicate that the company had done it with smaller phone designs, saying at the time: “There is always room for different sizes, but people want a lot more space. content surface now. “
If this report is correct, it is possible that Sony has changed its mind. However, the big question is whether consumers really want a smaller phone design or are they now used to larger screens?
