CNN – The online sensation that has become “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” has raised more than $ 1 million for the Actors Fund organization and struggling musicians affected by the pandemic.
The musical debuted on the social media platform on New Year’s Day and featured well-known names, including Wayne Brady, Titus Burgess and Adam Lambert. News of his monetary success was announced on Saturday at Twitter page.
The TikTok community saw the project move from a quaint, user-initiated Broadway-style effort to the 2007 Disney Pixar film to a full event in a matter of weeks.
Tickets to view the production cost just $ 5 a piece, meaning more than 200,000 have been purchased.
“It is very important to support artists now, I think, both in terms of raising money (and) bringing hope that new work can still be created and that there is room for innovation,” said Lucy Moss, director of Ratatouille CNN on Thursday. .
“Maybe, you know, that kind of work wouldn’t have happened if we weren’t all stuck at home.”
Fans can still watch the show. Tickets will be available for purchase until January 4.
