After being closed twice (first by COVID-19 and then by a bizarre insurrection that dominated the news cycle), Ashanti and Keyshia Cole Verzuz finally took place on January 21st. The queens of the first aughts came together in separate locations to bring bops that brought us back to Jansport backpacks and Jersey dresses.
Black Twitter was seething with impatience at 8 pm hoping the duo would show up for the culture and when they finally arrived, they gave us a lot to savor behind the story schemes for vocal riffs.
They brought us back to the sorrows we had when the personalized touches were the loudest declaration of love we could send, and the beads were something other people worried about as they hit their thrones at the sound of each other and shared stories about their time at the top the Billboard charts.

Technical difficulties delayed the event by an hour and after waiting more than a month, Black Twitter was failing. They let the characters fly on Beyoncé’s internet giving us the best pre-show ever.

Ashanti’s Homegirl Vibes
When Cole was late, Ashanti was the friend we all needed and he jumped into his hosting bag. “I am the hostess with the most people,” she declared with incomparable energy. Giving a solo show on her silver throne, she held it out to KC. “” I’m holding sister, this is how we do it, it’s about love, “she said smiling at the camera. Now, if we could get the dark office girl on all our calls to Zoom to do the same.

Being reminded that Ashanti entered the game at age 13
Ashanti’s debut project may have been launched in 2002, but the sister reminded us that her pen and tone have been around since the late 90s, playing her chorus on Big Pun’s “That’s How We Roll” earlier in the evening.

Watching each of the women gushing over each other’s “goods” made us miss praising random girls in the club bathrooms. When Keyshia labeled Ashanti “thicker than a giggle,” we almost lost control.
