88-year-old Frenchman caught at 191 km / h says he was late for Covid-19 jab – RT World News

An 88-year-old man in France had his license seized for exceeding the speed limit by more than 90 km / h. The veteran driver told police he was stepping on the gas because he was late for his vaccination appointment.

The man was traveling at 191 km / h when he was stopped by police officers in the northeastern part of Bas-Rhin on Thursday. The speed limit for the country road he was driving on is 110 km / h.

The driver “It gave reason for his speed that he was late for his anti-Covid vaccine,” the police said in a Facebook post.

Unsurprisingly, police determined that this was no excuse for reckless driving, as an accident at such a speed could potentially lead to health problems far more serious than those caused by the coronavirus.

The old speed demon ended up with his driver’s license confiscated and his car impounded.

“For everyone’s safety, we must comply with the speed limits, even after more than 60 years with a driver’s license”, said the police.

Amid supply problems across the EU, France was criticized for a slow release of the vaccine. Only 1.3 million of its nearly 70 million people have received both doses of the jab so far.

The program currently prioritizes people over 75 and people with serious health problems, but according to the local website, many of those eligible for the vaccine have complained about significant problems getting appointments at vaccination centers.

Some people said they had been trying to get a place for weeks, but to no avail – perhaps explaining the elderly driver’s determination to get to the appointment on time.
