Lent began for Christians around the world on Ash Wednesday, February 17, beginning a season of reflection and preparation before Easter Sunday, celebrated on April 4. And in some Catholic traditions, believers abstain from eating meat on Fridays instead of fish.
Taking advantage of the season, a bunch of fast food chains once again serve fish sandwiches to feed the faithful.

For a limited time, Arby’s is offering two sandwiches for the sea, both with crispy Alaska pollack fillets. The Crispy Fish sandwich is topped with American lettuce and tartar sauce, while King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe is reinforced with the same ingredients, plus tomatoes and cheddar cheese on a King Hawaiian bread.

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are serving a beaten fish sandwich with beer, with Alaskan Pollock fillet covered in beer with layers of lettuce and tartar sauce. Chewboom reports that Carl’s Jr. sandwich is made with plain bread, while Hardee’s sandwich features sesame seed bread.

Today, fans in locations across the country can buy McDonald’s classic Filet-o-Fish sandwich, with fish from sustainable fisheries, topped with American cheese and tartar sauce.
