49ers on the Cardinals scoreboard: CJ Beathard, Jeff Wilson, complement San Francisco’s dominant defense in the 20-12 victory

The Cardinals’ hopes in the playoff suffered a significant blow on Saturday, with Arizona falling home to the 49ers by 20-12. The 49ers were led by three touchdown passes from quarterback CJ Beathard, 183 yards from Jeff Wilson and a defense that kept the Cardinals 4 out of 16 in the third down and 1 out of 3 in the red zone.

San Francisco, who had already been eliminated from the postseason, improved to 6-9, avoiding a season sweep at the hands of the Cardinals. Arizona, who is now 8-7 after 5-2, trailed Bears (who will face the Jagaurs on Sunday) in the race to win the final spot in the NFC playoff.

Wilson’s 21-yard catch-and-carry gave San Francisco a 7-6 lead at halftime. After Arizona’s running back, Kenyan Drake, started the fourth period with a one-yard touchdown run, the second touchdown of 49ers tight end Kyle Juszcyzk increased San Francisco’s lead to 20-12 with 8:26 left . 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon ended the Cardinals’ next onslaught by making Kyler Murray’s final pass to Christian Kirk. The San Francisco defense sealed the victory when Murray failed to connect with DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth down with 20 seconds to go.
